For three quarters, Bellevue played dead even with host Skagit Valley before falling 59-49 tonight. Skagit Valley’s defense turned it up a notch leaving Bellevue unable to respond as the Cardinals’ Ashley Thomas had six steals in the fourth quarter which directly accounted for 10 points. Down 43-41, Thomas’ steal and layup put the Cardinals up 45-41 which quickly mushroomed into a 53-41 lead midway through the fourth. Bellevue had trouble getting anything going as the team’s scoring leader, Brianna Byrnes, was clamped down on by Skagit’s defenders, limiting her to just one field goal attempt.<\/p>\n
BC’s Gwen Aasland got things going in the first quarter sinking 3-of-4 from the free throw line as the ‘dogs led 14-13 after the first. The 75% shooting clip from the line didn’t last however, as Bellevue wound up shooting 44% for the night.<\/p>\n
Helena van Ess led BC with 15 points while Aasland had nine along with a team-high six rebounds.<\/p>\n
