After nearly a two week delay due to the infamous bomb cyclone that hit the Seattle area, Bellevue College women’s basketball took the floor for their home opener and won over visiting Yakima Valley 70-62. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs raced out in front 17-7 after the first quarter then outscored the Yaks 19-11 in the second to put up a commanding halftime lead of 36-18. BC had ball control early with 17 attempts in the first quarter alone and hit the boards hard with 10 rebounds. Yakima did not help their cause by shooting an ice cold one-for-11 in the quarter. Myana Calloway had the early hot hand for the ‘dogs making three-of-four from the field with eight points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC’s bench then contributed in the second quarter as Lily Auelua had seven points as the non-starters scored 12 of the team’s 19 points. Auelua’s shot with 1:56 to go until halftime put the Bulldogs up by 20 at 33-13 for their biggest lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Yakima Valley chipped away in the second half with a scoring outbreak of 44 points, Calloway threw in seven more in the half to keep the Yaks at a distance for the remainder of the game. While the final score ended up being below double digits, BC was in control, up by 11 at 67-56 with a 1:40 to go in the game, putting the dog fans at ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellevue got 18 points from Calloway and 12 from Auelua. Devynn Warns had 10 points but was a force in other areas leading the squad with 10 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellevue will face Green River on Fri. Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. at the Pirate Classic, hosted by Peninsula College in Port Angeles. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
