Bellevue College women’s basketball poured in 27 fourth quarter points against Lower Columbia but buried too big of a hole to get out of in a 79-70 loss. At a neutral site game which was played as part of the Pirate Classic hosted by Peninsula College, the Bulldogs fell victim to foul trouble and turnovers in a game controlled by Lower Columbia early on as the Red Devils built a 44-30 halftime lead. 10 second quarter turnovers in addition to cold shooting by the ‘dogs led to just four field goals in an 11 point quarter. Lower Columbia outshot BC 21-12 heading into the locker room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Bulldogs competed evenly in the third, the squad surrendered another seven turnovers in the quarter, preventing any sort of comeback for Bellevue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aysha Peter’s layup with 4:52 remaining brought hope for the Bulldogs as they closed the lead to 10; the narrowest margin since early on in the first quarter. But the Bulldogs could not stage a rally before a five point run led by Lily Auelua and Peter reduced the lead to 10 again, but with only 52 seconds remaining in the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs had 27 fouls on the night which led to Lower Columbia making 18 of 21 free throws; good for 86%. Peter was 58% from the field for 21 points. Alexis Marcussen pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds while Auelua had a hot hand from the outside with 16 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
