The Cardinals, coming in with an 11-1 league record, battled Bellevue from the get go with four lead changes in the opening quarter which ended up with the ‘dogs on top 14-11 after the first ten minutes of play. Up 11-9, Shannel Kovalsky’s jump shot at 2:23 tied the game at 11. A bucket by Alexis Marcussen and a free throw by Aysha Peter ended the BC rally to close out the quarter.

In the second quarter, Peter delivered a big three pointer with 19 seconds remaining to put the Bulldogs up 30-27 heading into halftime. Bellevue had their first extended lead as Lily Auelua had a three point stretch to put BC up 38-29 early in the third quarter. Bellevue maintained a consistent lead as Skagit Valley could get no closer than four heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Skagit Valley finally tied it up at 52 with 5:18 to go on a pair of Kiki York free throws. Grace Trichler would then convert two more free throws to give the Cardinals the lead with 4:37 to go. The Bellevue sophomore duo of Katen Myers and Peter then took matters into their own hands as Peter drained yet another three-ball while Myers hit a perfect six for six from the line to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Peters and Myers had 14 and nine points respectively while Kovalsky had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead BC’s efforts. The win, coupled with an Olympic loss, gave Bellevue sole possession of third place at 9-4 in the North Region.

The Bulldogs host Whatcom for their final regular season game this Wed.
