The Bulldogs sent off their sophomores in their final game at Bellevue in style, building a commanding 38-18 lead at halftime en route to the 36 point blowout.

The Bellevue sophomore tandem of Lily Auelua and Katen Myers got things going early, scoring the games’ first seven points before Whatcom got on the board. A 6-0 run capped off by a three pointer by Sophia Mackay put BC up 19-6 before closing out the opening quarter with a 21-10 lead.

Auelua and Aysha Peter drained three pointers and each had five points in the second as the ‘dogs built the big halftime lead as the Orcas continued to struggle offensively, shooting just 10% from the field making only one basket.

The offense broke out in the second half as the Bulldogs poured in 46 points. Coach Mel Stubblefield gave the starting sophomores, playing in their final home game, the third quarter before going to the bench who contributed in the 24 point final quarter. Alexis Marcussen and Kori Margain scored 10 of the team’s 24 fourth quarter points.

In a balanced attack, Peter led the ‘dogs with 13 points while Myers had 10. The Bulldogs closed the regular season in strong fashion with an impressive 10-4 league record after enduring a challenging pre-season schedule to bounce back with a winning record at 15-13 overall heading into the post-season. The Bulldogs open up the NWAC Sweet Sixteen at 10 A.M. on Fri. Mar. 6 against Big Bend, the East Region #2 seed. The tournament will be hosted by Columbia Basin College.

BC Athletics Bellevue College women's basketball closed out their regular season with a convincing 84-48 win over Whatcom at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.
