Bellevue College softball had a difficult time this weekend at the NWAC Crossover in Yakima, losing all four games against tough competition from other regions in the NWAC. On Fri. Apr. 10 Bellevue lost to Lower Columbia and Clackamas by scores of 9-0 and 15-3. On Sat. Apr. 11, the Bulldogs were more competitive, falling 4-2 to Centralia and 10-8 to Blue Mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Friday opener, the Bulldogs were stymied by Lower Columbia pitcher Zoey Hughes, who tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Hughes fanned the first five batters she faced before Avery Grutz was able to make contact, grounding out to third base to end the second inning. Allie Barashkoff broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fourth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellevue surrendered 5 runs in the first inning in the Clackamas loss and could not recover. Ava Jeretzky was a perfect 3-for-3 while Shannon Tierney and Abby Watkins each had two hits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the finale, BC surrendered a crooked number in the fifth, surrendering 8 of the Timberwolves’ 10 runs as Blue Mountain also took advantage of 6 Bellevue errors. The nightmare inning came after Bellevue pushed across 7 runs to open the game with a 7-1 lead heading into the fifth. Bellevue took advantage of pitching miscues by Blue Mountain coupled with singles by Barashkoff and Ella Singer. Barashkoff ended the weekend with a 3-for-4 game. No details were reported on the earlier Saturday loss to Centralia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
