Sara Gardner was interviewed by Sonya Green on KBCS 91.3 as Washington Governor Jay Inslee declares April as Autism Acceptance Month.
In this segment, Sara defines Autism, talks about the newly created Autism Acceptance Month as declared by Governor Jay Inslee, talks about the need for Autism awareness and acceptance in the community, points out how the media and television have presented false information and contributed to stereotyping about the disorder, describes a little about her own background and experiences, and how even non-profit organizations have launched fear campaigns about what it means to be on the Autism Spectrum.
Sara also talks about programs she’s initiated to raise Autism awareness, like the “Ask Me I’m on the Autism Spectrum” buttons, and the annual Autism Awareness Video Game tournament.
