Basic and Transitional Studies (BaTS)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the Basic and Transitional Studies Department<\/strong> is to provide students with high-quality basic and pre-college Math and English literacy education for academic, personal, family, work and community engagement while cultivating leadership potential within collaborative student, staff, and faculty learning communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department consists of several programs meeting the needs of students from many backgrounds and with differing levels of education and experience. Read the program descriptions below to find the program that works best for you! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learn English (ELA)<\/h2>
\n

The English Language Acquisition (ELA)<\/strong> program is for students who want to learn English as an additional language. ELA courses are intended for students who want to learn reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for their college and career goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prepare for College, Work, or Life<\/h2>
\n

Adult Basic Education (ABE)<\/strong> courses are intended for students needing basic skills courses to support transitioning to college classes, gain basic skills for life or improving employment opportunities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start College Classes or earn a certificate<\/h2>
\n

I-BEST<\/strong>\u00a0(Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training)<\/strong> is a program specifically for English language learners and Basic Skills students who want to start college classes, earn college certificates in multiple areas, learn workplace and job search skills, and gain confidence in English, study skills, and career readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earn your High School Diploma<\/h2>
\n

The High School +<\/strong> program is for students who are 16 years or older and do not have a high school diploma. Students who complete this program will receive a high school diploma from Bellevue College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prepare for the GED\u00ae
<\/h2>
\n

The GED\u00ae<\/strong> preparation courses are for students of any age who are preparing to take the GED\u00ae test.
