Matthew Zell’s journey to Bellevue College Continuing Education (BCCE) has been a unique one. Having worked in industries ranging from healthcare communications to executive coaching, Matthew joined BCCE in 2015 as an adjunct professor. Matthew taught classes in areas such as leadership development, process improvement and human resources.
“I enjoy teaching quite a bit,” Matthew says. “I see the need for new employees, managers and seasoned executives to learn how to better communicate and work together in order to solve problems. It was giving back to a community that allowed people to grow faster in their own careers, do good work within the community and create change with shared experiences.”
While Matthew enjoys teaching, he wanted to become more involved in BCCE. He had seen the potential of expanding the corporate training program for the college and began working closely with the continuing education team developing training programs for some of their corporate clients.
“Developing successful training programs is a complex process. It requires a keen understanding what our corporate partners need to succeed and coordinating the resources of Bellevue College to provide them with solutions that create outstanding outcomes.” Matthew says. “Bellevue College offers tremendous diversity and experience, and there always seemed to be the opportunity to grow that more, considering the marketplace we have in Bellevue and the eastside in general. There are so many companies with a critical need for comprehensive training and development I feel there is a great opportunity to develop more productive partnerships.”
And then the Director of Corporate Solutions role became available. Matthew began his role in November 2018, and will be acting as a bridge between companies and BCCE to develop training programs.
“Academia and corporate America both have their own set of culture and language,” Matthew says. “I see my role as facilitating both cultures and creating programs that benefit organizations and BCCE. As we look at the landscape of the marketplace, things are evolving and changing. The pace of business and diversity are increasing. It is truly an exciting time to be finding new solutions for our corporate partners and finding better ways for us all to work together.”
Matthew came to the college to shape the growth of students. Now, his work will shape the growth of BCCE. “Bellevue College has so much to offer, and finding ways to create value for our students and our corporate partners is really what we’re going to be focused on moving forward.”
