Topics include atomic structure, stoichiometry, solutions, bonding, acids-bases, and oxidation-reduction. A quantitative approach and problem-solving are emphasized. Fee: $55.00 100-level Science lab. It includes a lab component. This course is designed to prepare students for CHEM&amp; 161. Although CHEM&amp; 121 is also an intro-level chem course, it will not allow you to enroll in CHEM&amp; 161 and you will need to take a placement exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PREREQUISITES ARE CHECKED. Please make sure you are cleared for prereqs &#8211; either you will have taken the prereq courses at BC, or you will need to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/current-students\/placement-testing-services\/prerequisites\/\">\u00a0submit a prerequisite check<\/a> if prereqs were completed at another institution, or take<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/current-students\/placement-testing-services\/placement\/\"> the math placement exam<\/a> to meet the prereq. \u00a0[*If you took CHEM&amp; 139 at another WA State Community or Technical College, please contact the program chair (<a href=\"mailto:jmayer@bellevuecollege.edu\">Jennie Mayer<\/a>) to enroll directly into CHEM&amp; 161.]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/chemistry\/chem-140c-d-fiorini\/\">Sample Syllabus<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The current textbook is Nivaldo Tro&#8217;s Introductory Chemistry, 6th edition, published by Pearson. Since 2020, this textbook has been provided through Inclusive Access so all students taking the course have access from fees paid at tuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are currently using a CHEM&amp; 140 Workbook published by Van-Griner. It is sold through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bkstr.com\/bellevuecollegestore\/home\">BC bookstore<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/store2.van-griner.com\/product\/redemption-code-for-chem-140-workbook-ebook\/\">directly from Van-Griner<\/a>&nbsp;and includes exercises and lab activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some additional recommended resources you can access for free:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A reference text.
