EXPRL 190 Learning Portfolio Fundamentals • 2 Cr.


Introduces students to the basic steps needed to build a learning portfolio. Students learn to select and develop evidence, reflect on significant learning, and connect evidence and reflections in an organized portfolio.


After completing this class, students should be able to:

  • Define in written form their purpose in creating an individual learning portfolio Compile and organize a minimum of ten documents that demonstrate past learning experiences and achievements
  • Select or develop a minimum of six documents or other evidence for the learning portfolio
  • Write a concise statement reflecting significant learning for each piece of selected evidence
  • Write a two-page single-spaced essay connecting significant learning into a coherent whole
  • Organize evidence and reflections into a portfolio presentation
  • Give a five-minute oral presentation that details a plan for future portfolio development
  • Compare and contrast a learning portfolio with a career portfolio, in a one-page written assignment
