Biography:

Mahera Badat is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Seattle University. As a first generation college student, Mahera achieved her goal of attending the University of Texas- Austin and graduated with a B.A in Psychology and Islamic Studies. Mahera focused her undergraduate studies on Muslim Mental Health, and was a McNair Scholar where she developed a passion for education and research.

Mahera is excited to be a counseling interns and is thrilled to have an opportunity to work with students. With her unique undergraduate journey, Mahera believes she will be able to support students as they navigate their own journey through education and life.

Mahera’s approach to counseling includes using a primarily person-centered, narrative and cognitive behavioral approach. The focus is on supporting individuals understand their own thoughts and behaviors, and work on breaking patterns that are not supporting their goals. I believe In a collaborative approach and creating a safe space for individuals to express themselves openly and genuinely. Outside of school and internship, Mahera enjoys exploring new trails, viewing the mountains, and cooking/ baking.
