Reporting in ctcLink

Below are descriptions of the reporting positions within ctcLink system.

Query Runners

During ctcLink Implementation:

A group of college employees representing each ctcLink functional area who will be working with the ctcLink Testing Leads to help with the data verification and user acceptance testing (UAT) phases of the project. They will run queries, send data to identified validators, review files after validation and upload issues to SBCTC.

After ctcLink Implementation:

Long term, anyone will be able to run queries. There may be one or more query runners per department. It will be this person’s responsibility to run departmental reports to support the daily function of their business operations. This responsibility is similar to that of running DataX reports.

  • Learn to run queries based on information provided in SBCTC workshops.
  • Based on varying parameters, run multiple queries to pull data for analysis, sometimes across different departments.
  • Always search for existing queries before requesting to develop new ones.

  • Technical aptitude, not necessarily a technical background
  • Desire to learn
  • HP data familiarity is a big plus

Query Developers

This is a small group which supports the college as a whole. With approval from their supervisor, they play a key role in developing queries and guiding query runners after we go live with ctcLink. This is an ongoing, long-term role as the need for new reports and queries will always exist. This responsibility is similar to that of developing DataX reports.

  • Be primary point of contact for query development requests
  • Always search for existing queries in MetaLink before developing new ones
  • Escalate the request to the Reporting Lead if necessary
  • Develop queries in Production College Development (PCD) as needed by college
  • Work to align query output with business process input procedures
  • Completion of all ctcLink PeopleSoft reporting trainings

  • Interest in data reporting
  • Desire and ability to learn a new skill
  • Participation in ctcLink Implementation Activities (BPFGs, Data Validation, etc)
  • Technical aptitude, not necessarily a technical background
  • Understanding of the business processes and data

  • Prior experience writing queries
  • SQL knowledge
