Position Summary

This position is open for students only. A successful candidate will provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, employees, and visitors. This is a utility position that may be asked to work various job duties. Jobs may include, Barista, Cook, Snack bar, Check Stand, Catering, Server, Bartender, Events set up and breakdown, dishwashing.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Pay rate: $16.34/hr – 21.55/hr. Depending on Experience

The successful candidate is expected to work 16 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department

Bellevue College Food Service provides the college students, staff and Faculty a place to get a variety of Healthy food and beverage choices.

Essential Functions

  • Greet customers in a friendly manner and take food and drink orders.
  • Identify prices of products and services and tabulate bills with available equipment.
  • Take payment from customers.
  • Ensure accurate transactions by balancing cash register at the beginning and end of shift, and sales at the end of shift.
  • Prepare and serve beverages, ranging from simple to elaborate ones.
  • Prepare and serve food items, ranging from simple to elaborate ones.
  • Prepare food items following approved methods and procedures.
  • Assists with catering jobs that may include serving, bussing, cooking, dishwashing, and clean-up.
  • Assists with the set-up and breaks down of event spaces on campus.
  • Beverage Service with approved permit.
  • Answer customers’ questions about menu choices.
  • Promote and recommend menu options to customers.
  • Maintain inventory and equipment by cleaning.
  • Keep the work environment sanitary and organized.
  • Performs other work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler’s permit.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience handling US currency.
  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash registers & calculator.
