Each specific class session missed needs to be communicated between student and faculty. The general guidance is to use the accommodation up to 4 times per quarter. Students should contact the DRC if more are needed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-panel card bg-light\"><div class=\"card-body\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Flexibility in Attendance for Exams:<\/strong> If a student is unable to attend an exam due to a disability-related barrier, the student\u2019s Access Specialist and faculty need to be consulted to determine if a rescheduled exam date is appropriate and reasonable.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Student Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Request accommodations through the DRC each quarter\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with faculty at the start of the quarter to discuss the course syllabus and the accommodation\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform your faculty as soon as you know you need to miss class\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your faculty\u2019s preferred communication method (For example: Canvas or Email)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate clearly that you need to use your Flexibility in Attendance accommodation for a disability-related reason\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand that each missed class session needs to be communicated with individually\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand that not all class sessions may be able to be made up, and your faculty may inform you of this\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact your DRC Access Specialist for assistance in working with your faculty or if you are too far behind in class and need to pursue a Medical Withdrawal\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Faculty Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inform student of any class sessions that cannot be made up (examples: lab sessions with specific equipment, group project presentation days)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respond to student communication regarding use of the accommodation\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact the DRC for assistance or with any concerns\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DRC Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Send requested accommodation in Letter of Accommodation to faculty and student\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend meetings with faculty and student as requested to discuss the accommodation\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist with conversations between student and faculty regarding Flexibility in Attendance\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Flexibility in Attendance accommodation allows a student to miss in-person or virtual synchronous class sessions without penalty when experiencing a disability related barrier to attending.&nbsp;&nbsp; Flexibility in Attendance is meant to be used occasionally.
