{"id":8374,"date":"2026-07-08T13:15:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T20:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/drc\/?page_id=8374"},"modified":"2026-07-08T16:42:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T23:42:20","slug":"flexibility-in-attendance-accommodation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/drc\/flexibility-in-attendance-accommodation\/","title":{"rendered":"Flexibility in Attendance Accommodation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Flexibility in Attendance accommodation allows a student to miss in-person or zoom\/Teams synchronous class sessions&nbsp;without&nbsp;penalty&nbsp;when experiencing a disability related barrier to&nbsp;attending.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flexibility in Attendance is meant to be used&nbsp;occasionally&nbsp;and each specific class&nbsp;session&nbsp;needs to be&nbsp;communicated about&nbsp;between student and faculty.&nbsp;The general&nbsp;guidance is to use the accommodation up to 4 times per quarter. Students should contact the DRC if more&nbsp;are&nbsp;needed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-panel card bg-light\"><div class=\"card-body\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Flexibility in Attendance for Exams:<\/strong> If a student is unable to attend an exam due to a disability-related barrier, the student\u2019s Access Specialist and faculty need to be consulted to determine if a rescheduled exam date is appropriate and reasonable.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Request accommodations through the DRC each quarter&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with faculty at the start of the quarter (or as soon as the accommodation is added) to discuss the course syllabus and the accommodation&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform your faculty as soon as you know you need to miss class&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your faculty\u2019s preferred communication method&nbsp;(For example: Canvas or Email)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate clearly that you need to use your Flexibility in Attendance accommodation for a disability-related reason&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand that each missed class session needs to be communicated with individually&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand that&nbsp;not all class sessions may be able to be made&nbsp;up&nbsp;and your faculty may inform you of this&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact your DRC Access Specialist for&nbsp;assistance&nbsp;in working with your faculty or if you are too far behind in class and need to pursue a Medical Withdrawal&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inform student of any class sessions that cannot be made up (examples: lab sessions with specific equipment, group project presentation days)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respond to student communication&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;use of the accommodation&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact the DRC for&nbsp;assistance&nbsp;or with any concerns&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DRC Responsibilities <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Send&nbsp;requested accommodation in Letter of Accommodation to faculty and student&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist&nbsp;with conversations&nbsp;between student and faculty about specific&nbsp;questions&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;Flexibility in Attendance&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend meetings with faculty and student as requested to discuss the accommodation&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview The Flexibility in Attendance accommodation allows a student to miss in-person or zoom\/Teams synchronous class sessions&nbsp;without&nbsp;penalty&nbsp;when experiencing a disability related barrier to&nbsp;attending.&nbsp; Flexibility in Attendance is meant to be used&nbsp;occasionally&nbsp;and each specific class&nbsp;session&nbsp;needs to be&nbsp;communicated about&nbsp;between student and faculty.&nbsp;The general&nbsp;guidance is to use the accommodation up to 4 times per quarter.
