Using Cidi Labs to Import the Syllabus Template

Instructors can use Cidi Labs in Canvas to easily import a copy of the Bellevue College syllabus template. A PDF version of the Syllabus can also be created and distributed to students and to the Division.

Important Tip: Remember that the content in any two or more versions of your syllabus should match.


Your Word and PDF Syllabus versions must be accessible for all students, and this is regardless of Cidi Labs. Use the Accessibility checker in Word and Adobe before posting the Syllabus. Adding the Syllabus to your Canvas course

Start in Your Course:

  1. Select the Syllabus link from the navigation
  2. Select Edit to edit the page.
  3. Enable Cidi Labs by using the short cut keys:
    Shift+Alt+D (PC) or Shift+Option+D (Mac)

Then Using Cidi Labs:

4. Select Create/edit syllabus content
5. Copy existing content
6. Select the institution syllabus template
7. You can now customize your syllabus


Creating a PDF Version

You can convert a copy of the syllabus to PDF from your browser. Right click on the page in Chrome and select print. Then select PDF and save. This will create a PDF version of your syllabus. All browsers should provide the ability to convert to PDF. Additional information on printing to PDF from all browsers.

You can create a Word version of your syllabus by copying and pasting the text from the Canvas page into a blank Word document and saving it.

Important Tip:

If an empty box outline appears in your syllabus PDF then hide the Chat feature from your course navigation. Go to settings > navigation and disable the Chat feature.
