Vision

eLearning expands access to education options and pathways for students through online, hybrid, and other enhanced modes of course development, delivery, and innovation.

Mission

“We provide faculty guidance to enhance online content, encourage creative application of technology, offer instructional design consultations, and facilitate instructor-led, self-paced, and in-person Canvas workshops for faculty and students.”

Our Digital Learning Services include Instructional Technologists, Instructional Designers, and the eLearning team members who provide faculty guidance and training to build online content for effective student engagement and retention.

Our Multimedia Services include Multimedia and eLearning team members, who support instructional goals, by providing the latest reliable presentation technology support for college meetings, conferences, and campus programs for faculty, staff, and students.

eLearning promotes engaged learning options for online courses using Canvas. Canvas allows students to actively engage with course content, course instructors and their student community. Course activities and assessments are designed to move students from remembering to understanding, to applying, analyzing, evaluating and finally to course concept understanding.

eLearning Regular Substantive Interaction

  • Interaction must be initiated by the instructor.
  • Interaction must be “regular” and frequent.
  • Interaction must be “substantive” – of an academic nature.
  • Interaction must be with an instructor that meets accrediting agency standards.

  • Online courses are conducted completely on the web. The instructional content is delivered exclusively via distance education. Requirements for coming to campus for orientation, testing, or academic support services do not exclude a course from being classified as distance education.
  • Hybrid courses replace some – but not all – classroom time with online learning. For example, a class that would originally meet five days a week might meet three days a week, and substitute online activities to replace the other two class sessions.
  • Web-enhanced courses meet in regular class sessions, but use online resources for additional student-teacher and student-student interaction, posting of assignments, course materials, and student research.

eLearning Committee

Role and purpose: Provide guidance and expertise necessary to develop a rich and rigorous eLearning ecosystem that produces a consistent, cohesive, quality learning experience for students; examine innovative eLearning models and initiatives, based on the most current national and local eLearning trends; and ensure the eLearning direction is directly linked to the Vision, Core Values, Mission, and Core Themes of the college.

Council Alignment: Constituency Councils – Faculty: The membership term is for three years. The committee meets once a month. We have teaching and non-teaching positions. eLearning Committee members can be either part-time or full-time faculty/employees. All new applications are reviewed by the eLearning Director and the Faculty Council members. New members will notify their Program Chairs, Divisions and their Deans of their selection to serve on the eLearning Committee. eLearning Committee member selection is based on the following criteria:

Teaching members:

  • Experience with online and/or hybrid teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in online pedagogy and instructional technology
  • Demonstrated interest in participating in professional development that pertains to online learning and technology

Non-teaching members:

  • Demonstrated experience using educational technology for online learning and teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in participating in professional development that pertains to online learning and technology

Meeting Time: The eLearning Committee meets once a month on the third Tuesday of the month from 2:30-4:00 pm
