Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-centered peer review process designed to support, improve and certify the quality of online courses and digital learning materials. SBCTC eLearning applies funds to Quality Matters training and certification for each community and technical college each year.
Funded Workshops
SBCTC eLearning & Open Education also supports system facilitated QM workshops. The system workshops are taught by certified facilitators from within our own system and participants interact with peers from across Washington state.
SBCTC will pay the $25 technology fee for first-time participants in the following system facilitated workshops.
- Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR)
- Improving your Online Course (IYOC)
Your first workshop will be free of charge. SBCTC will pay for the cost. If you register for more than one workshop, you will need to pay for the individual workshop.

Do not register yourself on the Quality Matters website. Look for the dates in the SBCTC system offered workshop here. Select the date and the name of the workshop.
Only registrations submitted through your eLearning office and SBCTC eLearning will be processed and paid. Any registrations completed outside of the SBCTC sign-up process are the responsibility of the participant. Tuition is invoiced as soon as the workshop begins. All cancellations must be processed before the workshop starts.

Sign-Up
To sign up, you will need to send the Workshop Title and Start/End dates to your eLearning office and an email to the eLearning Coordinator at your college, along with your name, title, teaching subject and contact information.

To see available System facilitated QM workshop dates, please check your college email inbox, the ATL eList, or the eLearning Council training calendar. The IYOC is currently offered monthly and the APPQMR is offered routinely throughout the year.
Reminder, do not register yourself on the Quality Matters website. To sign-up for a System facilitated workshop, please fill-out SBCTC ‘System Facilitated’ sign-up form.
Please note that due to the substantial costs savings, participants will be placed into system facilitated APPQMR workshops before being placed in QM facilitated workshops. And, the IYOC can only be taken as a system facilitated workshop.
