Respondus is software available to BC faculty for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to a learning management system.  If you’re a BC faculty member, you may download this software from the link provided below. This software is password-protected and is made available to BC faculty members only.

Importing Word Files with Respondus 4.0

A test already in MS Word format can be imported into Respondus 4.0.  With minimal adjustments to the MS Word file, Respondus 4.0 can import these questions and most of the advanced formatting contained in the questions. Download a Sample MS Word document which has the correct format, ready to be uploaded into Respondus Take a look at how different questions can be Formatted in Microsoft Word before converting it to a Canvas file using Respondus.

Follow the steps and Watch the Video:

  1. Download the sample Word file with correct formatting.
  2. Download Respondus.
  3. Use the Sample Word file to create a test quiz.
  4. Go to Respondus. Change the “Current Personality:” to “IMS QTI”.
  5. Open the Respondus file and accept any prompts to convert the file.
  6. Go to Preview & Publish. Select “Save QTI XML File”.
  7. Save the file with the File Format option “QTI XML zip file using IMS Content Packaging”.

  1. Log into your Canvas course with a web browser.
  2. Go to Settings->”Import Content Into This Course”
  3. Under Import Content->Content Type, select “QTI .zip file”.
  4. Complete the import process.
