Accessibility is easier when you have the right tools. Inside your Canvas courses, you\u2019ll find several helpers that can check content, tidy up materials, and support diverse learners, all designed to make your teaching more inclusive and effective. Please keep in mind that no automated accessibility checker can catch every issue, but these tools are a great starting point for building more accessible, student-friendly courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canvas Accessibility Checker<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Rich Content Editor in Canvas includes an accessibility tool that detects common accessibility errors within the editor and provides guidance and tools for fixing issues as you design your content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ally Accessibility Report<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Ally, integrated into Canvas, helps ensure course materials are accessible for all. It reviews uploaded content, offers instructors guidance for improvement, and provides students with alternative formats like audio or ePub automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UDOIT<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cidi Labs Universal Design Online Inspection Tool, or UDOIT (pronounced, “You do it”) is a Canvas course accessibility assistant that automatically scans your course to find accessibility issues. It also then provides guidance to help you improve accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DesignPLUS
Accessibility Tools<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Within the Cidi Labs DesignPLUS editing panel, you will find a number of features for checking accessibility and improving usability while designing pages with Cidi Labs. DesignPLUS includes tools for checking contrast, headings, image alt text, links, math, and tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TidyUP<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Although not technically an accessibility tool, TidyUP is useful for identifying and removing unused content including files and Canvas elements (e.g., Pages, Assignments, Announcements, etc.). This type of ‘housekeeping’ can keep you organized and supports accessibility by ensuring that only essential content remains in your course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft Immersive Reader<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Microsoft Immersive Reader enhances your students reading experience by improving accessibility and boosting reading comprehension. They can use the Microsoft Immersive Reader when viewing the Course Home Page, Syllabus or when viewing an individual assignment or page. You can use it as first test to see how accessible your course materials are (not as the only test). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
