{"id":9127,"date":"2019-12-05T08:00:59","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T16:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/bcconnect\/?p=9127"},"modified":"2019-11-27T18:05:43","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T02:05:43","slug":"use-canvas-during-inclement-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/elearningfaculty\/2019\/12\/05\/use-canvas-during-inclement-weather\/","title":{"rendered":"Use Canvas during Inclement weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Sukirti Ranade.<\/p>\n<h2>How will your students access your course in case of a campus-wide shut down?<\/h2>\n<h3>Instructors:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Establish notification procedures for students (both to and from); reduce or eliminate unnecessary student trips to campus when the instructor cannot make it to campus.<\/li>\n<li>Design-in multiple, flexible communication and learning strategies and options that do not rely on in-person contact or delivery\u2014for example, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/faculty-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BC Outlook email<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-10736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canvas Announcements<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-10705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canvas Conversations\/Inbox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/elearningfaculty\/zoom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/elearningfaculty\/panopto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Panopto<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/elearningfaculty\/big-blue-button\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conference Tool (uses Big Blue Button)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/skype-for-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skype for Business<\/a>, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Please extend the <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-13898-4152810845\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">due date on Assignments<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-9959-415250754\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quizzes\/Exams<\/a> in Canvas if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If the Bellevue College website is not available:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Login to Canvas directly using the url: <strong>bc.instructure.com<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Our Canvas instance is hosted on the Instructure Canvas company website and not on the BC campus.<\/li>\n<li>Check the <a href=\"http:\/\/status.instructure.com\/\">Canvas Status Page<\/a> for updates on Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Register for Canvas 101!<\/h3>\n<p>If you need more training on how to use Canvas, don\u2019t delay! Learn how to use Canvas to post your course materials and keep your course going, even though campus may be closed! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/elearningfaculty\/canvas-101-teaching-with-canvas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Register for Canvas 101!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will learn how to prepare for emergencies that may result in campus closure by having your course syllabus, course objectives, announcements, and reading materials available in Canvas for students to access at any time.<\/p>\n<h3>For Instructors who use Canvas minimally:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/canvas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Login in to Canvas<\/a> and search for your Canvas course.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-12784-415241445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Create a Home Page.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-10405-415250731\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Add your Announcements<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Hide all the <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-12933-415257079\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Navigation tools<\/a> that will not be used.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-13030-415257126\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Publish your Canvas site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bellevuecollege.teamdynamix.com\/TDClient\/KB\/ArticleDet?ID=21871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Send an email using Outlook<\/a>, so students are aware that there is a Canvas Site available.
