Literature classes explore the question of what it means to be human and enlarge our understanding of ourselves and others. Writing classes develop the skills needed to convey what we know with clarity and precision. These English skills are the &#8220;hidden agenda&#8221; behind most career successes. Professionals can go only so far in most fields before their English skills will determine their ability to advance. Employers recognize this fact, making an English major a valuable asset in any job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">English Placement <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The English Department uses Guided Self-Placement for course placement. This process is designed to help you choose the English course most suitable for your current skills and abilities.&nbsp;<strong>It is not a test;<\/strong>&nbsp;it is a tool that will assist you in reviewing and reflecting on information to best support your success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guided Self-Placement tool is a 4-step process of reading, reflection, and multiple-choice questions that help offer recommendations for English Placement.
