She holds Ph.D. in English from the Ohio State University. Her dissertation, \u201cNarrating Other Minds: Alterity and Empathy in Post-1945 Asian American Literature,\u201d explores Asian American authors\u2019 innovative uses of the stereotypes about \u201cinscrutable\u201d Asian American minds by using the tools offered by rhetorical and cognitive narratology as well as research in the cognitive and neurosciences. Her dissertation also examines the production and consumption of fictional mind in literature, the various ways in which different forms of fictional mind interact with the real mind of readers. Her research interests include American and Asian American literatures, rhetorical narratology, cognitive narratology, cognitive science, and theory of mind.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Hyesu taught a wide range of literature and composition courses at University of Massachusetts Boston and Ohio State University. She finds herself highly motivated in classroom, interacting with students who are curious to learn new things and develop their appreciations for literature, reading and writing.
