{"id":1535,"date":"2015-04-17T22:02:01","date_gmt":"2015-04-17T22:02:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/?post_type=staff&#038;p=1535"},"modified":"2025-08-28T15:58:40","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T22:58:40","slug":"jun-xu","status":"publish","type":"staff","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/staff\/jun-xu\/","title":{"rendered":"Jun Xu, Ph.D"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Jun holds a Ph.\u00a0 D in Language and Rhetoric from the English Department at the University of Washington.\u00a0 Her dissertation was titled \u201cWhere Knowledge Thrives: The Role of the Metaphorical in Scientific Process,\u201d the writing of which was supported by an Alvord Dissertation Fellowship.\u00a0 Her Master\u2019s degree essay, \u201cAusten\u2019s Fans and Fans\u2019 Austen,\u201d was awarded the Himmelman Graduate Award and published in the Journal of Literary Semantics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Jun holds another Ph. D. in bio-organic chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Washington.\u00a0 She also worked as a postdoctoral fellow for one and a half years, first in bio-organic chemistry and then pharmaceutics.\u00a0 Her research led to twelve articles published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, the Journal of American Chemistry Society, Microbiology, Journal of Organic Chemistry, and other scientific journals, regarding bacterial genomes, the mechanisms of bacterial antibiotic production, the causes of antibiotic resistance, and the alterations of antibiotic structures through organic synthesis and gene manipulation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Jun devotes her research and teaching to integrating science and the humanities.\u00a0 As a writing teacher, she has been developing STEM writing courses on various levels, while steering academic writing to civic engagement through teaching the writing of argumentative essays and research papers in courses such as ENGL092, ENGL093, ENGL&amp;101, and ENGL201.\u00a0 Jun is the lead of the WAC (Writing Across Curriculum) \u00a0program at Bellevue College.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":1698,"parent":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-1535","staff","type-staff","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/1535","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/staff"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/1535\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2746,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/1535\/revisions\/2746"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1698"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/english\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1535"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
