About the film: A Thousand Cuts is the critically acclaimed and unsettling feature-length documentary that goes inside the escalating war between the government and the press in the Philippines. The documentary follows Maria Ressa, a renowned journalist who has become a top target of President Rodrigo Duterte’s crackdown on the news media. We see the role that social media has played in bringing Duterte to power and in villainizing Maria Ressa, and we also hear her warning that what is happening in The Philippines can happen elsewhere.
