However, students in the Computer Science, BS program and in some of our Nursing programs will have the opportunity to request a recommendation from an instructor in order to be considered for scholarships specific to their programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Should Write My Recommendation? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recommendations should come from faculty or staff members as described in the application. Recommendations should not be from a family member or personal friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foundation and Foundation staff are not able to write letters of recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-row row\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-column col-md\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Members <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty members will be able to comment on your academic contributions to date, future goals, and research experience they have supervised. Many individuals have busy schedules, and you want to allow enough time for the recommender to agree to complete and write a strong recommendation. Rushing them might lead to a recommendation that is not as polished or as positive as it could be.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-primary text-bg-primary\n\t\t text-white\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_f33fc551-90ec-4fdc-b665-8dce90ec3a77\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed text-white\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_f33fc551-90ec-4fdc-b665-8dce90ec3a77\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_f33fc551-90ec-4fdc-b665-8dce90ec3a77\"><strong>Choose well<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_f33fc551-90ec-4fdc-b665-8dce90ec3a77\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_f33fc551-90ec-4fdc-b665-8dce90ec3a77\" data-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>Request recommendations from those who know you, since they will be better equipped to write a compelling recommendation for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask potential recommenders: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Do you feel you know me well enough to write a scholarship recommendation for me?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p> This allows a person who feels they don\u2019t know you well enough to decline to write a recommendation and potentially suggest a different individual. This is better than having someone write a generic recommendation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-primary text-bg-primary\n\t\t text-white\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_471b6848-ae01-4457-bafa-ad108d66a2b4\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed text-white\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_471b6848-ae01-4457-bafa-ad108d66a2b4\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_471b6848-ae01-4457-bafa-ad108d66a2b4\"><strong>Provide helpful information<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_471b6848-ae01-4457-bafa-ad108d66a2b4\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_471b6848-ae01-4457-bafa-ad108d66a2b4\" data-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>If possible, meet with your potential recommender(s) in person and provide some information to them. Specifically, provide information about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scholarship and the broad goals of the program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why you are applying for the scholarship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What you hope to accomplish through your education and career<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your resume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A copy of your transcript<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-primary text-bg-primary\n\t\t text-white\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_e87f6942-f536-4d48-a02e-e65136289eb1\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed text-white\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_e87f6942-f536-4d48-a02e-e65136289eb1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_e87f6942-f536-4d48-a02e-e65136289eb1\"><strong>Provide accurate deadlines and procedures<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_e87f6942-f536-4d48-a02e-e65136289eb1\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_e87f6942-f536-4d48-a02e-e65136289eb1\" data-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>This is imperative. If your recommender doesn\u2019t have the correct information, it will be difficult or impossible for them to submit their recommendation correctly or on time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-primary text-bg-primary\n\t\t text-white\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_5627d1b1-ec52-4478-a623-5559c74abec3\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed text-white\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_5627d1b1-ec52-4478-a623-5559c74abec3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_5627d1b1-ec52-4478-a623-5559c74abec3\"><strong>Follow up<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_5627d1b1-ec52-4478-a623-5559c74abec3\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_5627d1b1-ec52-4478-a623-5559c74abec3\" data-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>Check in with your recommender at least one week before the recommendation is due, to see if they need any additional information from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have begun working on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/foundation\/scholarships\/how-to-apply-for-student-scholarships\/short-answer-questions\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"44\">Short Answer Questions<\/a>, consider sharing with them to get their feedback.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-primary text-bg-primary\n\t\t text-white\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_e53c8169-ec58-4893-b216-98405d8d9945\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed text-white\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_e53c8169-ec58-4893-b216-98405d8d9945\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_e53c8169-ec58-4893-b216-98405d8d9945\"><strong>Be gracious<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_e53c8169-ec58-4893-b216-98405d8d9945\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_e53c8169-ec58-4893-b216-98405d8d9945\" data-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_fb63c269-839e-4486-9d0b-fd969fb86789\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>After the deadline, follow up with your recommenders to thank them for their time and willingness to write a recommendation on your behalf. This will let them know that you appreciate their efforts and will increase the likelihood that they will write another recommendation in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We suggest handwritten thank-you notes.
