The dramatic shift of social circumstances and the need to network with professors and other students as well as navigate the systems of an institution are also often overwhelming factors of college life. Studies show that students who take a course like FYS 101 within the first two quarters of starting their college careers are much more likely to succeed and will save time and money because they better understand their academic goals and how to reach them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse accordion-item\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header mb-0\" id=\"heading_8de9ea8a-206e-486b-8efc-d34a62012fd6\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse_8de9ea8a-206e-486b-8efc-d34a62012fd6\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_8de9ea8a-206e-486b-8efc-d34a62012fd6\">Which students are required to take First-Year Seminar or it&#8217;s equivalent?<\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse_8de9ea8a-206e-486b-8efc-d34a62012fd6\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_8de9ea8a-206e-486b-8efc-d34a62012fd6\" data-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\"><div class=\"accordion-body bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t\">\n<p>Bellevue College students, whose primary intent is to earn either the AAS-DTA or the Associate of Science Track I or II degrees, must fulfill the First-Year Seminar (FYS) requirement.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse accordion-item\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header mb-0\" id=\"heading_31b2fca0-896e-4599-a96b-bd9aa6c524bb\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse_31b2fca0-896e-4599-a96b-bd9aa6c524bb\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_31b2fca0-896e-4599-a96b-bd9aa6c524bb\">When should students complete their FYS requirement?<\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse_31b2fca0-896e-4599-a96b-bd9aa6c524bb\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_31b2fca0-896e-4599-a96b-bd9aa6c524bb\" data-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\"><div class=\"accordion-body bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t\">\n<p>First-Year Seminar (FYS 101) or an equivalent course is to be taken during the first or second quarter at Bellevue College.Students who recently transferred into Bellevue College or recently switched to a degree that has the FYS requirement should plan on taking the course during their first quarter at BC or in their new program. Please reach out to <a href=\"mailto:fyseminar@bellevuecollege.edu\">fyseminar@bellevuecollege.edu<\/a> if you have any questions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse accordion-item\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header mb-0\" id=\"heading_8b4e2cc6-1029-4964-a020-f80103f47d7f\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse_8b4e2cc6-1029-4964-a020-f80103f47d7f\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_8b4e2cc6-1029-4964-a020-f80103f47d7f\">Are there any FYS requirement exemptions?<\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse_8b4e2cc6-1029-4964-a020-f80103f47d7f\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_8b4e2cc6-1029-4964-a020-f80103f47d7f\" data-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_7e81810a-da60-49f8-9fed-af0ea4a4afb8\"><div class=\"accordion-body bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t\">\n<p>Yes, the following students are exempt from the requirement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students who have completed an&nbsp;<em>approved<\/em>&nbsp;similar first-year or college success course at another institution with a grade of D (1.0) or better.*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Students who have completed any degree or certificate that required 45+ quarter credits (18 semester credits \/ 27 quarter credits) at a regionally accredited college (including BC).*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who have transferred 45 or more college-level quarter credits (18 semester credits = 27 quarter credits) that count toward the AAS-DTA or AS Track I or II degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. Transfer credits only \u2013 BC credits cannot count toward these 45).*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who began taking classes at Bellevue College&nbsp;<em>prior&nbsp;<\/em>to summer quarter, 2021.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Running Start students who began taking Bellevue College classes&nbsp;<em>prior<\/em>&nbsp;to summer quarter, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who completed the Neurodiversity Navigators summer course, EXPRL 1194,&nbsp;<em>prior<\/em>&nbsp;to summer of 2022 are also exempt from the FYS requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>* Transfer courses and transfer credit exemptions must be approved by the Office of Graduation and Evaluations after official transcripts have been submitted to and approved by the college.
