The duration periods are ranging from a few weeks to several years. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab_link_40cf98ab-c567-4682-b25f-a3562065235a\" class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-tab-content-panel tab-pane\" id=\"tab_40cf98ab-c567-4682-b25f-a3562065235a\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Which J-1 Exchange Visiting Scholar Programs\/Categories Does Bellevue College Sponsor? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> The U.S. Department of State (U.S. DOS) allows Bellevue College (BC) to sponsor these J-1 Scholar categories:&nbsp;<strong>Professor, Research Scholar, Short-term Scholar, and Specialists<\/strong>.<br><br> Depending on which category you are interested and qualified for, the duration of stay of participation is different.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Professor:<\/strong>  This category is for those primarily are involved in teaching, lecturing, observing or consulting at Bellevue College. A Professor may also conduct research.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Duration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Minimum is one quarter, and maximum is five years.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Scholar:<\/strong>  This category is for those primarily want to conduct research, observe or consult in connection with a research project at Bellevue College. The research scholar may also teach and lecture.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Duration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Minimum is three weeks, and maximum is five years.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Short-term Scholar:<\/strong>  A professor, research scholar, or person with similar education or accomplishments coming to the U.S. on a short-term visit to lecture, observe, consult, train, or demonstrate special skills at Bellevue College.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Duration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Minimum is one week, but maximum is six months.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Specialist:<\/strong>  This is for experts who will exhibit specialized knowledge or skills in the U.S. Such exchanges are primarily non-academic and provide opportunities to increase the exchange of knowledge and ideas between Americans and foreign specialists. (22 CFR 62.26)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Duration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Minimum is three weeks, and maximum is one year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab_link_00ae83c7-9489-4eab-b338-f09acc332211\" class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-tab-content-panel tab-pane\" id=\"tab_00ae83c7-9489-4eab-b338-f09acc332211\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/international.bellevuecollege.edu\/\">online J-1 Exchange Scholar Application Form<\/a> <em>(see details in the &#8220;How-To-Apply Instructions&#8221; panel above)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$50 Non-Refundable application fee, due with application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal Plan and Goal Statement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resume\/CV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy of Scholar\u2019s passport photo and expiration date page(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy of dependent passport photo and expiration date page(s), who travel(s) with Scholar to the U.S.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial verification statements, in English, showing in USD the total required amount depending on the duration Scholar wishes to participate at BC\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An additional $5,000 is required per dependent (spouse\/child)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Statements must be dated within six months of application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$500 program fee, due with application.  <em>Additional $750 per dependent, accompanying with the Scholar<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL score, IELT score, etc.), or proof of waiver for English proficiency by BC Global Initiatives Department&#8217;s and BC Academic Hosting Division\/Department&#8217;s interviews<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BC Academic Hosting Division\/Department Sign-Off form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab_link_61994168-b43b-4e67-9a21-8ef1af2e3d42\" class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-tab-content-panel tab-pane\" id=\"tab_61994168-b43b-4e67-9a21-8ef1af2e3d42\">\n<p>It is mandated by the U.S. Department of State that all J-1 Exchange Visiting Scholars and their dependents must have medical insurance coverage in effect for the entire period of their exchange visiting program and coverage with the following&nbsp;<strong>minimum<\/strong>&nbsp;benefits [22 CFR 62.14]: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medical benefits of&nbsp;<strong>at least<\/strong>&nbsp;$100,000 per accident or illness;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visiting scholar to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An Exchange Visiting Scholar must <strong>either<\/strong> <strong>choose one<\/strong> of the following options: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>purchase health insurance through Bellevue College-Foundation Arranged Medical Insurance Plan (named Firebird International Insurance Group, LLC.), <strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>purchase a health insurance plan from home country that meet all of the insurance requirements listed above and submit proof of your health insurance at the time of your application. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-css-opacity has-black-background-color has-background is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bc-blue-color has-text-color\">Program Cost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-alert alert alert-info\">\n<p><strong>Source of Funding<\/strong>: Funding must come&nbsp;<strong>from a source other than personal or family funds<\/strong>. Funding can be financed directly or indirectly by the U.S. government, by the government of the Exchange Visitor&#8217;s home country, by an international organization of which the United States is a member by treaty or statute, or by an organization where the Exchange Visitor is working at.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>  The breakdown costs below are suggestions of the minimum and required amounts.
