APA Style

The Basics

Most of the programs and courses in HSEWI use the American Psychological Association (APA) style for writing. This cohesive writing format allows researchers, students, and professionals to communicate in a common language. If you are in a course or program that uses APA, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the style not just for classroom assignments, but in order to better understand the research language of your field.

General APA Formatting

  • Double-space document
  • Use 1″ margins on all sides and .5″ indents for new paragraphs
  • 12 point, Times New Roman font recommended
  • Include a page header (the title of your paper) and a page number on the top of each page
