I obtained my graduate degrees from the University of Washington, where I primarily focused on Indigenous history in the Pacific Northwest, specifically how Indigenous peoples in and around the Seattle area resisted their expulsion from the city by providing labor and other fundamental services to white settlers seeking to build their ideal city. In addition to Indigenous history, I have teaching fields in race, slavery, and U.S. empire, colonial Latin America, and posthuman studies. Outside of the classroom, I have worked with Seattle Colleges and the University of Washington to improve the transfer student process, conducted research in service of local tribal nations, and collaborated with MOHAI as part of a program designed to create more inclusive public history projects for use in secondary education.
