{"id":504,"date":"2016-12-13T19:58:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T03:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/?post_type=staff&#038;p=504"},"modified":"2025-08-21T08:53:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T15:53:00","slug":"dr-devon-atchison","status":"publish","type":"staff","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/staff\/dr-devon-atchison\/","title":{"rendered":"Devon Atchison, Ph.D."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Devon Atchison earned her B.A. in History from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in History from Boston University.\u00a0 Her doctoral dissertation, <em>Shades of Change<\/em>\u00a0focused on the racial, gender, and class implications of suntanning in America.\u00a0 Dr. Atchison left cold and snowy Boston for the warmer shores of San Diego, where she taught at Grossmont College for seven years.\u00a0 At Grossmont College, Dr. Atchison served as an Academic Senate Officer, faculty co-chair for the Women\u2019s History Month celebration, faculty co-chair of the LGBTQIA club, and volunteer archivist for the Women\u2019s History Museum of San Diego.\u00a0 She was awarded the \u201cExcellence in Teaching\u201d Award in 2009, and was awarded tenure that same year.\u00a0 Since moving to Seattle, Dr. Atchison started an Advisory Board, and serves as Board Chair, for the Making Connections program, organized an oral history project for the Community and Parents for Public Schools, was the keynote speaker for the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship\u2019s inaugural EmpowerHer event, and taught U.S. History at Seattle Central College.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":236,"featured_media":1347,"parent":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-504","staff","type-staff","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/504","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/staff"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/236"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/504\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1349,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/504\/revisions\/1349"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1347"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/hist\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=504"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
