This isn&#8217;t just a box to check for your Bachelor of Applied Arts degree; it&#8217;s your chance to build a portfolio with real client work, make industry connections that could turn into your first job offer, and discover which corner of the interior design field truly excites you. Whether you land at a residential firm, a commercial design studio, a design position in a retail environment, a showroom guiding clients through product selections, a staging company transforming spaces to sell, or somewhere entirely unexpected\u2014this experience will give you the confidence and credibility that only comes from doing the work, not just learning about it.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Begin by Finding an Interior Design Internship<\/strong><br>Acceptable internships for the interior design BAA include but are not limited to: Interior design positions and\/or sample library coordinator roles in interior design and architecture firms; positions in showrooms and staging companies; retail design positions; retail roles in interior design suppliers such as paint, flooring, and window treatment companies<br>Students find their own internships at Bellevue College. Here are some of the most popular ways students find internships:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cHandshake\u201d is Bellevue College\u2019s internship and job search platform. All BC students have free accounts. Begin by activating your account and setting up your profile (https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/internships\/ scroll down until you see the white oval with the text \u201cActivate Your Handshake Account\u201d). Make sure you answer all the questions so the software will send you the types of opportunities you seek. Then search based on the type of internship you are seeking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students find internships using \u201cIndeed\u201d and \u201cLinkedIn\u201d. When searching these sites, include the word \u201cintern\u201d or \u201cinternship\u201d in addition to the job title(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can approach any company and express interest in an internship with them. Internships must be in a state or territory of the US.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Networking is an effective way to find an internship. Tell everyone (friends, family, family friends, neighbors, people you meet) that you are seeking an interior design internship. Attend industry networking events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Get Approval of Your Internship to Earn Academic Credit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interior design internships are 2 credits (50 internship hours equal one credit-about 5 hours a week; 2 credits-about 10 hours a week). In most situations, both internship credits should be earned during one quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you have secured an internship, set up an appointment with the Internship Coordinator, either on-campus or virtually (link to set up an appointment: https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/internships\/ This takes you to the Academic Internship website. Scroll down until you see two ovals\u2026a green \u201cSchedule an On-Campus Appointment and a blue \u201cSchedule an Online Appointment\u201d. Click one of these buttons which takes you to a Booking page. Click on \u201cInternships for College Credit\u201d (bottom right in the list) and then click on a black date on the calendar (if the date is gray, there are no appointments available that day). Then choose the time of day on the right side of the screen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Internship Coordinator will decide if your internship is eligible for credit for the Interior Design BAA. If yes, you will review the enrollment process, the required training agreement, and course assignments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Students have additional requirements to enroll in an internship course (Curricular Practical Training-CPT).
