{"id":15948,"date":"2025-07-21T12:14:40","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T19:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/?page_id=15948"},"modified":"2026-04-21T14:29:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T21:29:12","slug":"regain-f-1-status","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/regain-f-1-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Regain F-1 Status"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-bc-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\">Requesting to Regain F-1 Status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who are out-of-status&nbsp;and have had their SEVIS record terminated for failure or violations of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/immigration\/basic-regulations\/\">maintaining F-1 status<\/a><strong> must meet with their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a>&nbsp;immediately&nbsp;to discuss&nbsp;possible options&nbsp;to regain F-1 status.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapsibles accordion\" id=\"accordion_58f4c131-0561-42aa-9b27-27f59d97559d\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-info text-bg-info\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_b049b56f-fc27-4b18-95c6-2b5902404724\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_b049b56f-fc27-4b18-95c6-2b5902404724\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_b049b56f-fc27-4b18-95c6-2b5902404724\"><strong>Option 1: Reinstatement<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_b049b56f-fc27-4b18-95c6-2b5902404724\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_b049b56f-fc27-4b18-95c6-2b5902404724\" data-parent=\"#accordion_58f4c131-0561-42aa-9b27-27f59d97559d\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_58f4c131-0561-42aa-9b27-27f59d97559d\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p><strong>Required conditions:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You&nbsp;have not been out of status more than 5 months at the time of filing the request for reinstatement (or&nbsp;demonstrate&nbsp;that the failure to file within the 5-month period was the result of exceptional circumstances and that you filed for reinstatement as soon as possible under these circumstances).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&nbsp;do not have a record of repeated or willful violations of immigration regulations.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&nbsp;are currently pursuing, or intending to pursue, a full course of study in the immediate future at the school which issued I-20.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&nbsp;have not engaged in unauthorized employment.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&nbsp;are not deportable on any ground other than overstaying or&nbsp;failing to maintain&nbsp;status.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must also&nbsp;establish&nbsp;that:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The violation of status resulted from circumstances beyond your control. Such circumstances might include&nbsp;serious injury&nbsp;or illness, a natural disaster, or inadvertence, oversight, or neglect on the part of your&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a>, but do not include instances where a pattern of repeated violations or a willful failure on your part.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The violation relates to a reduction in your&nbsp;course&nbsp;load that would have been within&nbsp;your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a>&nbsp;power&nbsp;to authorize, and that failure to approve reinstatement would result in extreme hardship&nbsp;to&nbsp;you.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>USCIS will update your SEVIS record to reflect the decision. If your reinstatement is denied, you may not&nbsp;appeal&nbsp;the decision.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reinstatement Application Procedure<\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Schedule an appointment with your&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a> to review your eligibility and the process.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit your most recent bank statement to your International Advisor.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>File your application online or by mail and prepare&nbsp;the required&nbsp;documents:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Form&nbsp;I-539 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/i-539\">Reinstatement to student status<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Form I-539 Fee\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>$420 if filing online (upload payment receipt)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$470 if filing by mail, plus:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Form G-1450 (credit card payment)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Form G-1650 (ACH payment from a U.S. bank account)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copies of your: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Valid passport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F-1 visa&nbsp;stamp or change of status approval notice <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All <\/strong>issued I-20s <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most recent I-94<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signed reinstatement I-20<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I-901 SEVIS fee receipt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of full-time enrollment (class schedules, all transcripts (including other institutions), etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A&nbsp;letter explaining your circumstances and requesting to be reinstated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any supporting documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep a copy of all documents<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are filing&nbsp;paper&nbsp;application consider using certified mail to track your shipment. Mail the documents to:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>USCIS <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attn: I-539 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>P.O. Box 660166<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dallas, TX 75266-0166<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a copy of your USCIS receipt to your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue studying full-time and maintain good academic standing while your application is pending.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact your International Advisor right away if you receive a Request for Evidence (RFE).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse card bg-info text-bg-info\"><div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading_c4ed7db9-a11e-4da2-b179-be89f1dcbee0\"><h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse_c4ed7db9-a11e-4da2-b179-be89f1dcbee0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_c4ed7db9-a11e-4da2-b179-be89f1dcbee0\"><strong>Option 2: Travel and Reentry<\/strong><\/button><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"collapse_c4ed7db9-a11e-4da2-b179-be89f1dcbee0\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_c4ed7db9-a11e-4da2-b179-be89f1dcbee0\" data-parent=\"#accordion_58f4c131-0561-42aa-9b27-27f59d97559d\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_58f4c131-0561-42aa-9b27-27f59d97559d\"><div class=\"card-body bg-light text-dark\">\n<p>If some cases, you may have&nbsp;an option&nbsp;to&nbsp;depart&nbsp;the United States and re-enter with&nbsp;an initial&nbsp;status I-20. Consult with your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a>. Due to expanded travel bans and entry restrictions,&nbsp;reentry option involves risks&nbsp;and is not guaranteed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A minimum of two weeks before your planned departure date,&nbsp;submit&nbsp;a new bank statement to your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/international\/current-students\/advising\/\">International Advisor<\/a> or to the&nbsp;designee&nbsp;to obtain&nbsp;an initial&nbsp;I-20 form.
