I am from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I have been here for almost 5 years. I arrived in the United States in March of 2015 and I started at Bellevue College in June 2015 till December 2019. When I arrived in the United States, I went to a different college and I met someone who actually introduced me to BC. And talked to me how supportive BC was and how supportive the teachers were and that it is a good environment to grow. So I decided to come here, to transfer from my old school to Bellevue College. When I arrived here at BC, I figured out that my friend was right; and that everything was nice: the teachers, the staff, and the diversity that was actually wonderful, good clubs. I really was impacted by this community lifestyle.

After I completed my degree in 2019, I applied for my OPT card, because it actually help me working. When I got the OPT card, I can work and find a good job, you know, related to my field. So I started applying for several companies. It was a challenge. It was really really hard, but I got lucky that I landed a job at Microsoft. I am working there as a Software Engineer. My day to day task is to read codes, write codes, trying to find bugs, keep up things you know; and all those stuff actually related to technology and related to computer science.

To sum up everything, actually I have a great experience at BC. My teachers, my bosses because I have several jobs, my coworkers, my friends; most of the people and the staff are what I wish for everybody to have the experience that I had.

Right now I am so grateful of my journey and my experience.

Thank you Bellevue College!

All Student Stories

Hi, My name is Ferdinand Tembo.
