About Faculty/Staff Resources

Services

What kinds of services and resources do I have access to as a Bellevue College employee?

Borrow Library Materials

All BC employees can borrow up to 20 items at any given time. Visit the Library’s Borrowing Materials webpage for information on the types of materials you can borrow (e.g., laptops, DVDs, magazines), borrowing policies, and managing your account.

You will also find information on technology requested by students on our Using the LMC webpage. Here is some quick info about some of the items students may often ask about:

Databases

Use databases to access a variety of content, such as streaming videos, medication information written for the consumer, career information, and articles from a variety of fields. Several databases are accompanied by a video tutorial (indicated by a Video icon). You can also access our collection of video tutorials from our YouTube Channel.

Research Guides & Virtual Displays

The Library’s Research Guides (a.k.a. LibGuides) contain information and relevant resources about a subject or course. You’ll also find Virtual Displays (e.g., LGBTQIA Resources), Special Topic Guides (e.g., Zines), and Handouts (e.g., citations).

Visit our Faculty Guides for information and resources on copyright and fair use, how to utilize resources from the BC Library for your class, finding and using Open Education Resources, teaching resources for anti-racism, and our library instruction plan.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Are you looking for a book or an article that the Library does not have in its collection? The BC Library may be able to request items from outside lending institutions through Interlibrary Loan. ILL requests for books can take 1-2 weeks to be fulfilled, depending on the lending library. Article requests have a quicker turnaround time and may be fulfilled within 1-5 days.

For questions, please contact our BC ILL Specialist Ashley DeWeerd, contact a reference librarian, or reach out to your division library liaison for more information.

Request Materials for Purchase

Faculty and staff may suggest items to be added to the library collection. Priority will be given to materials in agreement with the Collection Development Guidelines. Make your request by:

Library Spaces for Work and Study

The Library’s two floors provide spaces and equipment for work and study needs. Visit the Library’s Using the LMC webpage to locate the different Study Zones and to learn more about using the physical library.

Partner with Your Division Library Liaison

Each division has a designated library liaison librarian who is available to assist you with identifying resources for your courses or answering questions about how the library can partner with you. For more information, please visit our Contact a Librarian page on our Faculty How-To Resources Guide.

How does the BC Library help to support low-cost resources for course materials?

Course Reserves

Instructors can place course materials on Course Reserve for students to check out for short periods of time. Course Reserves provide students with an additional option for accessing course materials needed for classes and research. The loan period for these materials will be determined by instructors.

If you have placed materials on Course Reserve and would like to view which items are still on reserve, follow the instructions on our searching for course reserves document. For additional questions, please contact our Course Reserves Specialist Ashley DeWeerd or call 425-564-2252.

Open Education Resources

Our Open Education Resource Guide helps faculty find and use OERs. OERs provide lower cost, adaptable resources for your class. OERs are:

  • Open – published under an open license to be shared for free or at a low cost
  • Educational – provide an alternative to textbooks or other class or curriculum material
  • Resources – come in a variety of formats meant to be reused and adapted

Would I be able to hold classes in the Library?

Located on the first floor of the library, the Collaboratory is an open space designed for flexible student learning.
