Dr. Jill Wakefield has been named Interim President of Bellevue College. The Bellevue College Board of Trustees announced the appointment on August 25. Her start date will be determined in September. She will serve the college until a permanent president is in place, which is expected to take about a year. A recruitment firm will conduct the nationwide search.
“I’m honored to have been chosen as interim president at Bellevue College, a visionary institution that truly cares about student success,” said Wakefield. “I look forward to working with its outstanding faculty and staff to serve students, business, and the community.”
Dr. Wakefield retired in June as the longest-serving chancellor in the history of the Seattle Colleges, where she served for 40 years, starting as a program assistant in the veterans office at South Seattle Community College before serving as a public information officer, director of development, vice president for institutional advancement, vice president for instruction, and president from 2003 to 2008.
“It’s a privilege to have an interim president with such a deep commitment to the mission and values of community colleges, who also brings tremendous experience as an executive-level administrator,” said Dr. Lisa Chin, Board of Trustees vice chair.
