{"id":45,"date":"2014-06-19T11:28:22","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T18:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/math\/?page_id=45"},"modified":"2026-10-21T14:27:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T21:27:54","slug":"amatyc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/math\/amatyc\/","title":{"rendered":"AMATYC Student Mathematics League"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2026\u201327 Student Mathematics League Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>2026\u201327 Student Mathematics League Competition<\/strong> will be held in two rounds. <strong>Each round offers two sessions, and students may choose either session.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Round 1 \u2014 Wednesday, November 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2:00\u20134:00 PM in <strong>N201<\/strong> <strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2:30\u20134:30 PM in <strong>B104<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Round 2 \u2014 Wednesday, March 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2:00\u20134:00 PM in <strong>N201<\/strong> <strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2:30\u20134:30 PM in <strong>B104<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A student review session will be offered approximately one week before each round. The time and location will be announced later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>General Information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year, the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) organization offers students the chance to participate in a nationwide math competition.&nbsp; Twice each academic year, the Student Mathematics League (SML) is administered at two-year colleges all over the country.&nbsp; Each college submits a team score based on the total of <strong>the five&nbsp;best&nbsp;individual performances <\/strong>at that college.&nbsp; After each round, all teams are ranked regionally and nationally, and high-scoring individuals are ranked as well. There is also a $3000 scholarship prize awarded to the national champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>General Instruction:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>60-minute, timed test<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20 multiple-choice, precalculus questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students arriving late will not be allowed to participate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BC&#8217;s team score is the sum of the 5 best individual efforts (no student simply participating for fun will hurt the team)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>+2 points for each correct answer, -0.5 points for each incorrect answer, and 0 points for questions left blank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants may use any scientific or graphing calculator; examples: TI-82\/83\/84\/85\/86\/89 calculators are allowed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calculators not allowed include TI-92, TI Nspire, or TI Nspire CAS II, and calculators with a &#8220;QWERTY&#8221; keyboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Snacks will be provided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sample tests with keys are provided (see information below)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$3000 scholarship awarded to the national champion!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions? Even more, we ranked <strong>11th in the nation out of 107 participating colleges!<\/strong> Congratulations to our talented students and everyone who supported them. What a fantastic achievement for Bellevue College! &#x1f3c6;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>first round<\/strong> of the AMATYC SML competition in the 2025-2026 academic year was held on November 5th.
