Notes from the President

Dear Colleagues,

There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our BC community. We recently announced that Bellevue College will require vaccinations for all students, faculty, and staff coming onto campus for work, study or use of facilities beginning Fall Quarter. Please help us comply with current guidance from county, state, and national health officials.

Notes from the President

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you were able to stay cool during the unprecedented heat wave we experienced in the Pacific Northwest this last week. As Yogi Berra said: “It’s not the heat, it’s the humility!”

Recognizing Juneteenth

Dear BC Community,

On June 19 Bellevue College, and the nation, honors Juneteenth. Congress recently passed legislation to establish June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, and President Joe Biden will sign the bill today. It will be the first national holiday approved since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established in 1983.

Notes from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Washington State is poised to lift COVID-19 safety guidelines at the end of June. With summer quarter and the new fiscal year around the corner, let’s all welcome the optimism of fresh starts.

Recognizing Pride Month

Dear BC Community,

This June, Bellevue College joins the nation, and world, in celebrating Pride Month. It’s a time to recognize the achievements and importance of our LGBTQIA+ communities, raise awareness of the issues and challenges they still face, and honor the 1966 Compton’s Cafeteria Riot in San Francisco which became a catalyst for other LGBT-related protests like the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan and the first Pride March in 1970.

Notes from the President

Dear Colleagues,

It’s almost summer, and it looks as though our region and State are continuing to move toward normalcy after a long year-and-a-half of dealing with COVID.

Commemorative Months for May

Dear BC Community,

This May, Bellevue College joins other colleges in celebrating both Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month. To our AAPI and Jewish colleagues, students, family members and friends, please know that we value your contributions to our community and nation.

Introducing: Notes from the President

Dear Colleagues,

During the past year, as we have all dealt with COVID communications challenges, I’ve often wanted a more regular way of reaching you. This message is the first of a bi-weekly series to update you on some of the exciting things happening here at Bellevue College and the important work we are accomplishing together.

Statement on Recent Events

Dear BC Community,

The events of the past week have left our hearts heavy. It seemed as if each day we were met with additional disturbing news of another mass shooting and a life lost at the hands of law enforcement. It is challenging to know what words are adequate in these moments. It feels as if when we begin to recover from one tragedy, we are met with another.

Recognizing Arab American Heritage Month

Dear BC Community,

April is Arab American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions Arab Americans—3.5 million strong—have made to this country and our own community.
