New faculty who do not complete the training in the above timeframe will no longer be assigned courses in the fully online modality. They can qualify to teach online courses in the future by successfully completing OETA training. Do I still need to take this training?<\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse_725d9247-4f83-40e9-b1fe-4c672958b390\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_725d9247-4f83-40e9-b1fe-4c672958b390\" data-parent=\"#accordion_5e7dcbbc-93c7-4471-b033-8e40466993f0\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_5e7dcbbc-93c7-4471-b033-8e40466993f0\"><div class=\"accordion-body bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t\">\n<p>Faculty who have been teaching online at Bellevue College for two or more years, or who have already completed the eLearning \u201cCanvas 101\u201d course, can elect to undergo a course review instead of taking OETA-02.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should the College determine that a faculty member has completed part of the training in the past five (5) years through other means (e.g. an equivalent Faculty Commons course or completed the Quality Matters course) then the faculty member may elect not to retake the course.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse accordion-item\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header mb-0\" id=\"heading_e874f247-7d92-4d52-8561-b415df1cf660\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse_e874f247-7d92-4d52-8561-b415df1cf660\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_e874f247-7d92-4d52-8561-b415df1cf660\">I don&#8217;t plan on teaching online this year. Since we have limited offerings every quarter, we recommend that you take the workshops when they are offered. This will be to your advantage, if you do get an online class assigned.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-collapse accordion-item\"><h3 class=\"accordion-header mb-0\" id=\"heading_0b5b34e2-bd08-433a-9339-9ba0ee1d6e9f\"><button class=\"accordion-button bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse_0b5b34e2-bd08-433a-9339-9ba0ee1d6e9f\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_0b5b34e2-bd08-433a-9339-9ba0ee1d6e9f\">What does the Collective Bargaining Agreement say about the OETA?<\/button><\/h3><div id=\"collapse_0b5b34e2-bd08-433a-9339-9ba0ee1d6e9f\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"heading_0b5b34e2-bd08-433a-9339-9ba0ee1d6e9f\" data-parent=\"#accordion_5e7dcbbc-93c7-4471-b033-8e40466993f0\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordion_5e7dcbbc-93c7-4471-b033-8e40466993f0\"><div class=\"accordion-body bg-default text-bg-default\n\t\t\">\n<p><strong>17.5.3<\/strong> Online Excellence Teaching Academy Workshop. The Online Excellence Teaching Academy (OETA) has been established to ensure quality online instruction for adjunct and full-time faculty teaching online credit courses at Bellevue College. Faculty are required to complete the Online Excellence Academy in order to teach as the instructor of record for online, credit-bearing courses at Bellevue College. This training is not available for faculty teaching exclusively in Continuing Ed or Athletics<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The OETA has two training phases:<br>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Phase One<\/strong> (totaling 14 hours) covers the basic skills and information for effectively teaching a course online. Upon successful completion of Phase One, the faculty member will receive a stipend of $600.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phase Two<\/strong> (totaling 20 hours) includes training in areas such as tech skills, effective pedagogy, copyright and accessibility. Upon successful completion of Phase Two, the faculty member will receive a stipend of $800.<br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For new faculty to be eligible to be assigned an online course, training must be completed by the following timelines: Phase One \u2013 Complete within two (2) quarters of start; Phase Two \u2013 Complete within one (1) year of start. New faculty who do not complete the training in the above timeframe will no longer be assigned courses in the fully online modality. They can qualify to teach online courses in the future by successfully completing OETA training.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management will have the discretion to allow faculty who have not completed the training to teach online on a case-by-case basis to prevent the cancelation of a class section or for other unexpected circumstances. As you complete each required course or approved substitute, you\u2019ll earn a digital badge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These badges are part of a structured pathway that will automatically award you a&nbsp;<strong>Phase One<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Phase Two<\/strong>&nbsp;badge once all requirements for each phase are met.
