Service Learning: YouthCare Donation Drive

The Social Change class in the OLS Program is working to make an impact in our community. As a service learning project, our students have organized a donation drive to help homeless youth. Hundreds of young people are living on the streets; as our way of contributing to the community, we want to help them stay warm and have the things they need this winter.

We are teaming up with YouthCare, which provides a safe place for Seattle’s youth in need of help. Below is a list of items we are collecting:

We are asking for donations of:

  • Gloves, mittens, hand-warmers
  • Hats, scarves
  • Umbrellas
  • Hairbrushes
  • Re-usable water bottles
  • First-Aid Kits
  • Flashlights
  • Pocket-size “space blankets”
  • Travel size personal care items: Hand sanitizer, skin lotion, shampoo, deodorant, pocket tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss/picks, etc.

Please consider donating! You can drop off items to our collection bin located in the lobby of the Bellevue College North Campus. Our donation drive is running through November 30th.

During each course at OLS, our students participate in service learning activities that pertain to the respective learning outcomes of their courses. This gives the students an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom and put it to practice in the community.
