Student Stories: Job Shadows

Third year students are taking Individual Study this quarter to help them further develop their career pathway.

Each student is designing an individualized project that includes at least two job shadows in the community. A job shadow provides an experience for a student of what it is like to perform a certain type of work by having them accompany an experienced worker as they perform the targeted job. OLS students also do research related to their career pathway and prepare a PowerPoint presentation for the North Campus at the end of the quarter.

Third year student Mallorie Shibley had the opportunity to job shadow a Veterinary Receptionist and Assistant to the Veterinary Technician at Cottage Lake Veterinary Hospital in Woodinville. “If you want something bad enough you can’t just open the door, you have to walk through it,” says Shibley. “It was an un’fur’gettable experience!”
