Student-Created OLS Commercials

Students in Critical Thinking Through Media are tasked with the assignment of creating a commercial for OLS Bellevue College.  They spend the first few weeks of the quarter learning about the history of advertising, the motives behind it, and the many different forms and evolution of advertising.

This quarter was particularly challenging for this assignment, as students continued with remote learning and didn’t have access to a computer lab, recording, or editing equipment. Students got creative with this assignment and used a variety of recording/editing sources such as PowerPoint, iMovie, Biteable, and more.

The commercials created for this project were reflections of each student’s experience at OLS, what it means to them, and why others should consider attending. It was wonderful to hear how meaningful OLS has been to each of them in different ways, and to hear their passion for inviting others to check out OLS. It is clear that OLS and Bellevue College help these students feel supported, feel a sense of community, develop a stronger sense of self, and a more defined path towards their future goals.
