Human Sexuality Zine Project: What is a Zine

Written by Jack, OLS Student

This quarter, the Human Sexuality class did some creative project-based learning. This took the form of a “Zine” about an independent subject of our choice. Each student chose a subject relating to human sexuality, and during the next class period the class worked on, completed and printed their Zines on the library computers. The Human Sexuality class had some help from the Office Procedures and Customer Service class in the form of office lab hours. During the office lab hours, Office Procedures and Customer Service copied and printed the assembled Zines into their booklet form.

But what are Zines? Zines are a short magazine-esque article. They are usually around 10 pages and usually feature pictures alongside the article. Zines, due to their size, only contain a single article. The Human Sexuality class would like to extend our thanks Elena Maans-Lorincz, Bellevue College Outreach Librarian and Science Liaison, for taking the time to teach our class on how to make Zines.

Students shared their Zines with classmates and invited guests on May 24th.
