OLS Citizenship Course Bill Presentations

The OLS Bellevue College Citizenship course has been busy with some amazing projects this quarter. One activity they recently completed was a bill presentation.

Students spent time in class going over Social, Political and Environmental issues before teaming up and choosing one issue to focus on. They drafted three pros and three cons for the issue together, then came up with three additional pros and cons on their own.

After that began the tough choice of choosing a side on their issue and creating a mock bill. “Wow, did they have some amazing ideas,” shares their instructor, Tiara.

The project wrapped up with each student presenting their bill to the Mock House (their peers).

What an awesome way for students to explore an issue and see the progression of their work. Way to go, OLS!

Citizenship is taken in the second year of the OLS Bellevue College program and is one of the many courses students take to earn their associate degree. Students in this course study a variety of political, environmental and political issues and examine the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Occupational & Life Skills (OLS) is an associate degree program at Bellevue College for students with learning disabilities. In our uniquely supportive skills-based program, students apply academic knowledge through community activities, service learning and social experiences. Students identify a career pathway, gain marketable, workplace-ready competencies, develop better interpersonal skills and complete an internship in alignment with their career goals.

Learn more about our program at an upcoming Information Session, open to all prospective students, family members/guardians, educators, counselors and other service providers.
