A Visit to Robinswood Park

The OLS Walking and Jogging course goes outdoors on campus for many of their classes. On Wednesday, Oct 5, students got to break out of their usual routine with a community activity at Robinswood Park.

In addition to giving students the chance to explore their community somewhere off campus, this gave students the opportunity to be more involved in nature for their walk. It also help studentd understand the health benefits of walking or exercising in the outdoors.

There were many reflections students noted: birds, ducks, spiders, webs, tree bark and trunks, almost fall leaves, cool weather, wet ground, pond, flowers, berries and much more.

Exercise is an important part of physical and mental health. Being outdoors and appreciating our surroundings in a more meaningful way can help us feel more relaxed and ready to take on the day!

Walking and Jogging is one of the elective courses students can take to earn their associate degree in the OLS program. Students in this course learn about the benefits of fitness through walking, jogging or a combination of both.

Occupational & Life Skills (OLS) is an associate degree program at Bellevue College for students with learning disabilities. In our uniquely supportive skills-based program, students apply academic knowledge through community activities, service learning and social experiences. Students identify a career pathway, gain marketable, workplace-ready competencies, develop better interpersonal skills and complete an internship in alignment with their career goals.

Learn more about our program at an upcoming Information Session, open to all prospective students, family members/guardians, educators, counselors and other service providers. Come learn why OLS Bellevue College is one of the best colleges for students with learning disabilities.
