OLS Bellevue College Students Participate in Mock Interviews

The Occuaptional & Life Skills Bellevue College (OLSBC) Communication in the Workplace class had their Mock Interviews on March 8th.

Preparing for the mock interview

This is a quarter long preparation for the students in getting ready for these interviews. We start with communication skills with customers and coworkers as well as conflict resolution. We then learn how to apply for and interview for a job.

Students create and present why they want their ‘dream job’ and what skills they have for the job and in a workplace. Students regularly practice with each other to use assertive communication skills, and develop a mini-speech about themselves and their skillsets. They also practice answering questions about challenging situations to demonstrate their growth mindset.

Day of the mock interviews

On the day of the Mock Interviews, interviewers from several companies, including Microsoft, volunteered to interview the students and provide both verbal and written feedback.

Most of the students were a bit nervous about the mock interviews, but after they had prepared for it and gone through it, they realized they had gained a lot of useful information from the interviewers and about themselves. The students absolutely learned ‘Skills for Work. Skills for Life’ in this class.
