How Did OLS Celebrate Earth Month?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n

In celebration of Earth Month, the OLSBC Critical Thinking for Media class attended an Eco Poetry Writing Workshop sponsored by the BC Office of Sustainability. The workshop was led by Professor Camille T. Dungy, renowned poet and author of the recent book \u201cSoil: The Story of a Black Mother\u2019s Garden.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Professor Dungy guided students through a transformative poetry writing experience, focusing on the intersection of nature, environmental action, and identity. Her garden serves as a metaphor in her work, exploring themes of environmental justice, racial identity, and community resistance. During the workshop, students discovered that poetry is not just a form of artistic expression but also a powerful medium for communication, storytelling, and cultural connection. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Poetry, like other forms of media such as literature, visual art, or film, conveys ideas, emotions, and experiences in a unique and often highly condensed manner. Over time, it has evolved to encompass various styles and formats, from traditional sonnets to free verse and spoken-word performances. About the Critical Thinking Through Media Course<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

Critical Thinking Through Media is taken in the second year of the OLS Bellevue College program. In this course, students explore how media advertising works and why it is so successful with consumers and analyze the way buyers are influenced.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
