{"id":426,"date":"2014-06-02T14:59:42","date_gmt":"2014-06-02T21:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/policies\/?page_id=426"},"modified":"2026-04-30T17:01:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:01:38","slug":"id-4000","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/policies\/id-4000\/","title":{"rendered":"4000 Community Care and Institutional Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Original Date: 6\/9\/1992 * Last Revision Effective: 3\/18\/2026<br \/>\nPolicy Contact: President<\/p>\n<h2>Policy<\/h2>\n<p>All members of the college community contribute to the overall health of the institution, to include nurturing growth for students and employees; collaboration and accountability in support of colleagues\u2019 and students\u2019 dignity; response to community needs and transformational practices that prepare for the future; as well as attention to curiosity, integrity, and authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>By maintaining an atmosphere that stresses individual growth and utilizes the strengths that people of all backgrounds bring to the campus, Bellevue College will continue to provide an enlivening, enriching experience which encourages cross-cultural understanding. This atmosphere produces an environment in which different perspectives are valued and utilized in the decision-making process. The college community believes that the future of our society depends upon the promotion of such positive interaction.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, to develop and maintain an intentionally inclusive environment, all members of the college community will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote the recruitment, hiring, and retention of qualified individuals representing a broad spectrum of backgrounds;<\/li>\n<li>Recruit and retain students who represent diverse backgrounds;<\/li>\n<li>Provide and develop courses in the college curriculum that include the study of various cultures, and that incorporate diverse values and skills;<\/li>\n<li>Affirm the diversity of human identities and experiences.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid, identify, and prevent instances of bullying. \u201cBullying&#8221; is defined as repeated or aggressive unwanted behavior not otherwise protected by law when a reasonable person would feel humiliated, harmed, or intimidated (2050 Student Conduct Code, WAC 132H-126-100(16)(b)).<\/li>\n<li>Ensure honest, fair, and ethical behavior.<\/li>\n<li>Distribute resources for professional development and awareness opportunities and provide increased access to and participation in campus-wide events;<\/li>\n<li>Create safer spaces, free from harassment and discrimination (1440 Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation);<\/li>\n<li>Foster meaningful dialogue that facilitates dignity, respect, understanding and transformation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This commitment serves to challenge systems of power, privilege, and oppression and will guide practices, decisions, and activities.
