Ideally, the performance appraisal cycle will include goal setting, performance evaluation, professional development and performance discussion.<\/p>\n<h2>Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<p>It is the responsibility of supervisors to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consistently guide, counsel, and evaluate their employees in a manner that will result in increased effectiveness and great job satisfaction to the employee.<\/li>\n<li>explain the employee&#8217;s responsibility for successfully performing assigned job duties and responsibilities;<\/li>\n<li>assess how well the employee has contributed to efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling the objectives of Bellevue College and the position; and<\/li>\n<li>recognize an employee&#8217;s successful job performance and identify any necessary changes in job performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is the responsibility of the employee to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>request clarification of any job duty, standard, or expectation that is unclear;<\/li>\n<li>perform work as assigned and meet job standards and expectations;<\/li>\n<li>participate in the performance evaluation process; and<\/li>\n<li>communicate with supervisor and share successes and problems so the supervisor can better measure progress and provide assistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Definitions<\/h2>\n<p>Exempt Staff<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exempt staff will include both administrative staff and exempt staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Supervisor<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual responsible for the day-to-day performance of a work unit, department, or division.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Relevant Laws and Other Resources<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>WAC <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.leg.wa.gov\/wac\/default.aspx?cite=357-37\">357-37<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Revision History<\/h2>\n<p>Original 8\/31\/2010<br \/>\nRevisions 9\/11\/2012; 4\/21\/2015<\/p>\n<h2>Approved By<\/h2>\n<p>President\u2019s Cabinet<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Original Date: 8\/31\/2010 * Last Revision Effective:\u00a04\/21\/2015 Policy Contact: Vice President, Human Resources Policy It is the policy of Bellevue College to encourage growth and development of exempt staff by periodical reviews of their progress through performance-based evaluations.
