{"id":34,"date":"2014-05-29T14:32:44","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T21:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/psych\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2026-03-20T11:20:58","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T18:20:58","slug":"concentration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/psych\/concentration\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Concentration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Planning to transfer to a University to pursue a degree in psychology?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Bellevue College Psychology Department&nbsp;offers&nbsp;an&nbsp;<b>academic concentration in psychology<\/b>&nbsp;on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2014\/05\/AAS_DTA.pdf\">Associates in Arts and Sciences [PDF]<\/a>degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To qualify, students must:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Take four courses in Psychology, only five credits can be applied in a distribution area (<em>C- or better in each concentration course)<\/em>; the other 15 credits will be counted as electives or towards the concentration area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\"><strong>PSYC&amp; 100 General Psychology (5)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\"><strong>TWO<\/strong> of the following five courses:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSYC&amp;200 Lifespan Psychology (5)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC 202 Introduction to Physiological Psychology (5)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC 205 Theories of Personality (5)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC 209 Fundamentals of Psychological Research (5)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC&amp;220 Psychology Disorders (5)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\"><strong>5 additional credits in Psychology<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">We strongly recommend that students consult with a faculty member in the Psychology department before completing the form and\/or beginning their journey to get the academic concentration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Only ONE Psychology (PSYC) course can be applied toward the distribution requirements.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Example: Any PSYC course will count toward the Social Science distribution area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Exception: PSYC 202 is unique and can count toward either the Social Science or the Natural Science distribution area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">All remaining PSYC credits will count as electives.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Please email the department chair, <a href=\"mailto:deepti.karkhanis@bellevuecollege.edu\">Deepti Karkhanis<\/a>, for approval and a recommendation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students must take the following steps to ensure qualification:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2014\/07\/PsychAcademicConcentrationForm.pdf\">Application for Academic Concentration form [PDF]<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Email an advisor in the Psychology department for advice.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><h6>You may make appointments with any of the following faculty for advising.
